Abstract
The passage of abdominal contents into the thoracic cavity through an anterior retrosternal diaphragmatic defect has been known as a hernia of Morgagni, according to Morgagni who described at first (1761).
Morgagni¢¥s hernia are uncommon with an incidence of 3% in all diaphragmatic hernia. This condition affects the right side more frequently than the left and bilateral involvemen are uncommon.
Almost all Morgagni hernia have a sac, but occasionally it may be absent. Often the hernial sac contains only a portion of colon, the colon with omentum, stomach and small bowel.
The diagnosis was made easily by chest X-ray film that revealed an abnormal gas shadow an-terioryl in the region of the pericardium.
The surgical repair is mandatory for almost all hernias of the foramen of Morgagni that can be demonstrated to contain any abdominal organs.
Today we report one case of congenital diaphragmatic hernia through Morgagni foramen treated in the Department of Surgery, St. Mary¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College.
